I have been around wood my entire life. My father was a professional carpenter and a part time
woodworker. I remember using blocks of wood from his job site to nail together something that I thought
was wonderful but was really just scrap wood.
I still work in the shop that my father built when I was 12 or 13 years old. I credit my parents for more than
just my studio. Before my second birthday, an accident left my hands severely burned. Despite my
injuries, my parents never let me use my hands as an excuse to not try something. That positive approach,
combined with Mom’s advice to do something right if you are going to do it, instilled in me a strong work
ethic that carries over to my woodworking.
All of the pieces on this site are of my design and built by me. I would categorize my as pieces as minimalist in style. That generally imparts my pieces with gentle curves and uncomplicated design, somewhat Asian inspired. The finished product is a one-of-a-kind piece that is
beautiful yet practical. I credit the wood for making each piece unique.
I think the wood should remain pure. I try to create a design that maximizes the character of the wood.
Much of the wood I use is indigenous to Indiana. Much has been harvested off my families land and some trees
have even been felled by me. In general, my go to woods are spalted maple, maple, oak, cherry and walnut.
Please browse my site, look at my pieces and send me a message. I looked forward to hearing from you.
